Mechanical aeration is to absorbing oxygen into air by using machineries to mix water and air. Mechanical aerators normally have two main functions: to introduce air by agitation or aspiration, and to provide mixing and flowing.

Typically two kinds: Surface mixer aerator to agitate the surface of aeration tanks or oxidation ditches, and submersible pumps aerator to introduce air and mixing with water by high speed rotating of impeller.
